Experiments in watercolour painting with Distress Crayons

After I discovered a patch or grass covered with buttercups while out walking Bentley, I realised although I’d painted sunflowers and daisies before, I’d never attempted to paint buttercups.

I’ve also been thinking that I haven’t used my Distress Crayons much and wondered just how easy it would be to use the crayons to create a watercolour painting of the buttercups. This is the result of my experiment. Click the image below to watch my process.

I’ve never had a lesson in watercolour painting so I know my attempt is naive but I enjoyed the process, even if the Distress Crayons aren’t the best medium for the job.

Circle Art Journal Page – Radiate Sunshine

The recent bout of sunny warm days has got me in the mod for summer and I for one can’t wait for the long warm days to hurry and get here. Gansai Tambi Watercolours

I’ve been humming and aahing over the past few months as to whether I actually NEED these beautiful Gansai Tambi Japanese water colours…but NEED has lost out to WANT! I’ve heard such good things about the quality and creaminess of the pigments that I just had to order the 36 colour set as shown in the pictures below and can’t wait for them to arrive!

I’ll do a review of them when they land on my mat!

Dictionary Art Journal – Lepidopterous

I had so nice many comments about my dictionary art journal pages that I do at odd times of the day and night when I’m not usually in a position to film anything. However as so many people have asked I have managed to film this one! It’s only a short film, there’s not a lot to talk about as it’s a simple process but I hope you enjoy the page coming together. This is WK 7 on the Dictionary Art Journalers Facebook group and uses the letter “L”.

Dictionary Art – Weekend Roundup

I decided to have a lazy Sunday this weekend and so dusted off my large dictionary art journal. Using just Distress Ink Markers and Derwent Inktense pencils and a water brush.  I created this page from the “D” section. The Dictionary Art Journalers FB page is now doing weekly letter prompts and this is the one for WK6. I also realised that I hadn’t posted a page I did the previous week for WK5 which is in the “W” section, so you have a double whammy today! The wasp is done with just a black & white outliner pen and Derwent Inktense pencils and a water brush.

I don’t know why but I find illustrating these pages so relaxing and the feelings I get while creating them are so different to doing an art journal page with textures and layers.

I guess it’s because these are all one layer that they’re so easy and fun to create!
