Art Journal Page – Starry Night

IMG_2064

This is a very personal page for me, a little bit of a selfish indulgence, but if we can’t treat ourselves every so often then what’s the point!

I have always wanted to learn how to paint, I’ve tried and failed on many occasions, but I still keep trying, and trying. The gap between each try has been getting longer and the last gap has been about 6 or 7 years. Recently I’ve taken part in a YouTube event called “LoveSummerArt” the organiser is a lovely, bubbly lady called Cinnamon Cooney. She paints with acrylic paints and she films tutorials on how to do it. I’ve watched all her videos and she has sparked that fire in my belly once again. You can check her out here if you’re so inclined.

In one of her paintings she recreates her version of “Starry Night” by Van Gogh. I’ve always loved this painting, as so many others have, and decided I was going to try and recreate my version, in an art journal page.

For once with my painting, I’m very happy with the results. Very Happy!

My process video is below, but I feel must warn you before you watch. It’s just me, painting and doing a little talking. The art journal page took me nearly 3 hours to complete over two days, I did it in two sessions. I have sped up the film to 4 times it’s normal length, but still…there’s not too much excitement in it for anyone other than myself!

Don’t say I didn’t tell you!

Have a creative day

Art Journal Page – Sunflowers & Butterflies

IMG_2047

This is my second offering for the #lovesummerart event over on YouTube. Since the event began on the 17th July I’ve watched many many art, art journaling, mixed media, craft and a plethora of other handy arty crafty videos that I would never have found if it weren’t for the fantastic ability to find everything under on search criteria of the #lovesummerart hashtag.

It’s been a blast watching and taking part! If you haven’t taken a look yet, simply go to YouTube and put #lovesummerart into the search box and sit back and enjoy over 200 art and craft content creator’s videos under one heading! All with a summer theme! The event ends on the 20th, but you can put the #lovesummerart in at any time for as long as YouTube exists! It’s evergreen!

Here’s my process video for my last art journal page, hope you enjoy! I think I should add, that it wasn’t until after I’d finished filming, that I decided I hated the text, so the later photos show the updated text area!

Art Tag – July

TAG-MAIN

A new month means a new Art Tag project, and as normal we’re tagging along with Tim Holtz’s 12 Tags of 2015. This month being July, Tim is celebrating Independence Day on the 4th.

However being a Brit it would be inappropriate for me to follow suit, so instead I’m celebrating Britishness! Using Tim’s layout and colour scheme (it’s the same as ours). So here again is my process video, which is only a short one this time.

Have a creative day,

Mike

Adventures in Gelli® Printing – Part 3B

The final half of my latest exploration into Gelli® Printing with a real Gelli® Plate from Gelli® Arts. I’ve included some images of the actual prints, they’re not necessarily complete as I’ll probably add to them with more play at a later date, but you can see some of the basic effects I’ve created with very little practice.

I will carry on playing and making more vids using the plate and hopefully I can create something a little more complicated and more arty than just straight pulls with texture…watch this space.

I have attached large files of the prints for you to use if you wish, please feel free to copy the images to your own computers to play with and use as you see fit!

Have a creative day!
