IMG_3312My inspiration for this page came from two different locations. The first is the weekly journal prompt from Journal52, Week 6 is Windows.

This got me to thinking of windows to the soul and the paintings of Rene Magritte (pictured below). His images of other worlds through strange windows was all the inspiration I needed for my page. I’ve chosen his painting called A Friend of Order.

My quote reads ” I would rather experience a rainy day on a hilltop than a sunny day stuck in the office”.

I’m not sure where the quote came from originally but it’s one that has stuck in my mind for years!

blogger-image-1536309571I was tired and grumpy…enough said! A little bit of art journalling fun to cheer myself up. The wave in the middle was created by tearing a page in half and opening up and stencilling between with acrylic paints and Dylusions Ink sprays.

I used acrylic paints to add the coloured dots and doodled on the centres. I added journalling with a black fine line pen and printed out the quote on my computer and tore it into strips, which were then distressed with Tim Holtz Vintage Photo Distress Ink. All added to the page with Modge Podge and sealed.

The Grumpy image was taken from the internet, it’s a copyrighted image and does not belong to me © Disney Corp 1937. Yeah 1937, can you believe it! I’ve used it in a personal art project and not for commercial use. No copyright infringement intended.

Lost & Found

I’ve bought an A4 Dylusions Journal which I’ll be playing with shortly, but here’s another page to my ever expanding A3 art journal. This time the page was created using up strips of 12×12 pages. It gives the impression of stripping back layers of wallpaper to the bare brick and finding a hidden message left behind by the previous occupants of the house.

I’ve used lots of old papers from stash that have been lying around and not getting used, so this is a perfect excuse to use up and free some space on my shelves! The edges have been coloured with Faber Castell Gelatos and Pitt Big Brush Pens.

The quote, was over printed onto and old page from a dictionary, then torn into the strips. All glued and sealed using Modge Podge. I’ve also added some washi tape and some white acrylic paint splatters.

I’m still very new to the “Art Journaling” thing so my experimentation with colour and different mediums is still in its infancy. I’m quite enjoying the creative freedom art journalling gives you, but it can be quite a daunting prospect too!

Left Blank

I’ve finally taken the plunge into art journalling, this is my first page. I’ve taken my inspiration from pages seen in official documents, when pages are supposed to be empty as a divider, but have a notice on them saying that the empty page is on purpose! It always used to make me laugh as the page isn’t blank if there’s a note there!

A huge contradiction!

The text has been stamped with black Stayzon, stencils used are from TCW, “Art is”, “Swiss Dots” & “Brick” Inks are all from Tim Holtz “Distress” range, spritzers from Tattered Angels and orange splatters are a stamp from Stampin’ Up! “Gorgeous Grunge” The torn pages are from an old book off my shelf. I’ve doodled around the edge of the page to add a discreet frame.

For a first attempt, I don’t think it looks to shabby. I’m pleased with it anyway!

I may try and video my next page! Stay tuned!
