Journal52 – Artistic Restraint

Ok, so the genie is out of the bottle now, here it is, my very first art journal video. eek!

This week’s prompt over at Journal 52 is a very different one, instead of a theme prompt, we have a technique prompt instead which is really cool!

Week 9’s prompt is from Daniela Mellen, who gives us “Artistic Restraint”

“A lot of great creativity comes from restrictions.” – Giles Duley

When we think about restraint, the first thing that comes to mind is the opposite, which is total freedom! However, restraint encompasses focus, attention, decision making, and limits.

For this week’s prompt, limit yourself to working with just one simple shape {square, circle, rectangle, oval, heart, etc} and just one color {any color!}.

As this week’s prompt is a technique, I’ve also teamed this up with one of my own prompts from my blue box! At random I pulled out the word “Drowning”.

So I’m restricting myself to one colour (blue) and one shape, circles or circular(ish)…I’ve allowed myself the use of white too as Daniela suggests.

Hope you enjoy the video!
